My name is Kerry Stuart and it gives me great pleasure to advise you that I am the new owner of this unusual and iconic business.
Much has happened since March 2020, not withstanding the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic; but now I can finally use this platform to inform our many loyal customers and friends of our new venture.
Sydney's Original Doll Hospital has moved from our historic home on Stoney Creek Rd, Bexley, to our new location at 78 Appin Rd, Appin. Whilst we appreciate the move may have created inconvenience for some, the sale of the building Sydney's Original Doll Hospital was located at in Bexley, coupled with the new parking restrictions on Stoney Creek Rd made it near impossible to continue operating from our original site. We accepted that we would have to find a new home.
We were fortunate to find a stunningly restored 1830's sandstone heritage house that would provide ample space for our doll and toy restoration and repair work, and house our range of new and vintage dolls and toys.
I encourage you to take the time and effort to come and visit our new location in person. With cafes and the local pub located close by, there is plenty to see and enjoy whilst you visit us. We would absolutely love to show off our new location in Appin and of course our beautiful town.
New Owners of Sydney's Original Doll Hospital
In March 2020, Sydney's Original Doll Hospital changed ownership. Rightly, you may be wondering I am and although you may not have seen me in person, I have been repairing your dolls and bears for over 30 years.
I was fortunate to be offered this opportunity when Geoff Chapman, Sydney's Original Doll Hospital's former owner, needed support after working tirelessly in the doll repair industry for his entire life. Geoff reluctantly decided to retire and sell his family’s long running business to me. Sydney's Original Doll Hospital has been in the Chapman family for over 100 years and I am deeply honoured to be given the remarkable responsibility to manage their legacy.
My mother Beverley worked for the Chapman family for over 25 years, learning the skills and techniques developed over many years in doll and bear restoration and repair and it was through her I developed my love of repairing dolls. Over time my daughters Tamara and Shaylee have worked in Sydney's Original Doll Hospital at Bexley and our granddaughter Natasha is preparing to become a part of the hospital at our new address. Nadine, our eldest daughter, has been Sydney's Original Doll Hospital's Shop Manager for many years and with three generations of our family working alongside Geoff and the Chapman family, we're very proud to continue our wonderful work.
So as you can see, some things have changed and some things have stayed the same. Although the Chapman family are no longer with us at Sydney's Original Doll Hospital, their legacy remains in our DNA and family business.
We look forward to welcoming you at Sydney's Doll Hospital in Appin. Thank you for your loyal patronage and we hope to help bring your treasured belongings back to life.
